Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
