Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51M watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
